With Staples and Office Depot rewards you can get 10% back on ink and toner, paper and copies. You can also get $3 back for each ink cartridge you recycle. Office depot’s limit is five per day. My question is: How does the retailer profit from the credit that they give for recycling ink and toner? I have seen people with rewards for $100 or more just from recycling ink. Does the retailer profit from the ink recycling?

Yes! Plus most people only get a few dollars. When they come in they usually spend more. So they do well. They are not losing money.
