Are Lexmark ink cartridges compatible with a Dell printer?
No they are not compatible. Simple answer.
Dell printers are branded Lexmarks but they use different firmware and different chips on the cartridges.

After reading a couple of the answers here, I called Static Control Components, Inc. a leading manufacturer of chips for after market imaging technology and asked this very question. I was old by them that Lexmark and Dell depending on the model of the printer use different chips. Static was sued by Lexmark for manufacturing chips for Lexmark cartridges. Static won the case.
