Ink Cartridges Recycle Program
Nov/100

what recycling programs are available to raise money for my ecology students to take a field trip?
Our school already does ink cartridge, phone, and CD/DVD. I am talking about steel or aluminum cans, paper, etc.
Many waste products have value, but it typically requires volume or a favorable geographic location. Any beverage container has a value, some more than others depending on state legislation. White paper and cardboard are commodities but the issue is volume. You typically need 3 to 4 yard bins or a baler.
Start a beverage recycling program encouraging parents to bring in their containers from home. Have the students recycle weekly to avoid the smell or the flies from small amounts of soda, Gatorade, whatever. Encourage the students to recycle at the school. Talk to your local waste hauler and see if they will provide you with bins for paper or cardboard and would be willing to pay some amount. The price of paper and OCC fluctuates, so don’t expect a lot.
By recycling and earning revenue you contribute to a positive lesson and the kids earn money and a reward by a field trip. Good luck.
