How The Big Printer Manufacturers Get Rich And Stay Rich – Ink Is Gold!

I was doing some research for a little web site I slapped together about refillable ink cartridges, and stumbled across some pretty compelling information! Everyone knows that buying new print cartridges is uber expensive, so many people turn to third-party companies to refill their printer cartridges. Did you know can save 60% and more by refilling the ink cartridges you already have vs. buying new ones?!

Why is brand new printer ink so damn expensive? Well it turns out that the printer supplies department is where the big names (HP, Lexmark, Epson, Canon, etc.) make more than 80% of their money! The ink replacement market spans more than $21 billion…. yes, Billion.

Enough about that, here’s where my beef now comes in. Companies like The Ink and Toner Store provide an excellent service and product to avid computer users (and printers) like myself who burns through ink relatively quickly. It gets expensive, but I’d be spending a whole, whole lot more if I had to buy a new ink cartridge every time. People make generic crap all the time, so it shouldn’t be a problem to have someone put some ink in my cartridge! Right?!

Well, Lexmark disagrees. They are the ONLY manufacturer that I know of that do not have refillable ink – by anyone except themselves of course. Well, some third-party companies were refilling Lexmark cartridges and toners and resetting the counter microchip (moving the gas tank needle to “full” so the tanks would print) for its customers. Lexmark slapped all those third-party companies with a big ole fat law suit basically say “no, you can’t do that.” Luckily the courts disagreed.

So refill and reuse your ink cartridges – do it yourself or have someone do it for you. You’re going to be saving money and the environment. The big wigs that I mentioned earlier actually make up for 84% of the ink replacement market, and they have the nerve to void the warranty on the printers we purchased when we don’t buy brand spankin new ink cartridge for our printers!

Oh well…. the guys that refill my ink cartridges do a damn good job. I can’t tell any difference in quality and I’m saving money – that’s all tha matters to me!
