ink problem for brother dcp-310.?

anyone know, if you can disable an individual cartridge when it has run out of ink. my software programme(mfl-pro suite) will stop all print jobs if any 1 of the ink level,s is to low. i,ve looked at brother web site and i also understand about about protectig the printhead but what if you could take out the empty cartridge and carry on. i would prefer this as i re-fill my own cartridges and prefer to fill all 4 together or at least 2-three at a time. printer is used by kids and myself so printing tasks vary a lot. many thanks in advance..
