Has anyone had problems with HP ink?

I just bough a HP15/78 combo ink pack from Staples. It was in their plastic case, taken off at checkout, and the box was sealed properly. When I put the ink into the printer it didn’t work at all. I contacted HP and even tho the box says “install by August 2009″ they told me the expiration date on the cartridge is 2005. I have yet to go back to Staples and see if I can get a replacement but if not I’ll be out $35.00 (I had a rewards coupon for $25.00) Anyone else have this problem?
I tried it out in another printer in the house (that takes the same kind) and it didn’t work either. I brought it back to Staples and they exchanged it no questions asked. Just thought it was wierd how the dates were so far off…

I dont get how the box can say 2009 and they can tell you it expired in 2005. I also know expiration dates are generally meaningless. As long as the ink was sealed and not exposed to extreme temperatures, it can last for years. I recently came across some HP cartridges in a client’s office which expired in 2002. I found someone who had a printer which used these and they still worked.
