Ink Depleted in Brand New Cartridge (HP 02)?

I just got new 02 HP ink for my Photosmart printer. However, when I inserted the black ink, a message came up that said “Original HP ink has been depleted.” However, this message is troubling for two reasons: 1. it’s brand new and 2. There is ink in there because when I shake it, I hear the liquid sloshing around.
What does this mean?

Maybe it isn’t HP original ink. Therefore you may have to reset your printer. Some printers recognise when the ink is different to their own.
