Canon Pixma ink replacement – refill vs. chipless cartridge vs. remanufactured cartridge?
After perusing the internet and Yahoo answers, I’m still left wondering… which is the best way to go?
I have a new Canon Pixma ip4200 with which I plan to print a lot of PDF docs as well as pictures. For those of you with direct experience or knowledge on this, what is the best (most painless) idea:
a) buy the kits and refill the tanks myself
b) buy the chipless cartridges and attempt to switch the chips each time; or
c) buy the so-called “remanufactured cartridges” which I’m assuming already have chips on them since they are the most expensive of the three.
I used to own a trusty Epson which had no problems accepting non-brand cartidges, so I’m a little unfamiliar with the Canon chip technology and the chaos that seems to be associated with it.

Remanufactured and compatibles both come with unchipped cartridges at present.
I would recommend using the compatibles as they are 100% new and less chance of failure. Refilling yourself is a daunting task and wouldn’t recommend doing so unless you are familiar. But you can pick up the set for cheap enough of www.cartridgecapital.com, so it may not go a miss just trying them.
Whatever method you use, the difference is your ink gauge will still show that your ink tanks are empty simply because the printer recognises your cartridges as “old”.
