Can Lexmark X6170 All-In-One scan without ink cartridges? I’m planning to buy a used one just for scanning

Will Lexmark X6170 All-In-One printer be usable (specifically for scanning) even if I don’t install a print cartrdige? I’m planning to buy one off ebay. Most of them don’t have cartrdiges and I was wondering if I would need to buy ink even though I have no plans of using it for printing.

With all-in-one printers, you can scan, copy, and fax without cartridges. Depending on the model (I dont know specifically about Lexmark), each time when you turn the unit on, you might get a dialog that says you do not have cartridges installed, however that is just for information. No cartridges are necessary, unless you want to print.
