what is the difference in computers?

what is the difference in computers ? I am extremely new to this and how do i learn for free how to do stuff on the computer also what is the difference in computers between like a mac and an apple an a dell and whatever. . .
how can you tell what kind to get when you go to buy a computer…a apple, a mac, a dell …what ? confused …i am a grandparent this is new to me but i am wanting to learn. what do i need to burn cd?s what is it to burn cds and how ….what do i need to print pictures what kind of printer is the best .,what is the difference between laser ink and cartridge and which is best for printing photos etc,

If you are starting out, go with aDell with at least 512 MB of RAM, P4 processor, and about 40 GB HD. Apple/Mac just plain costs too much for a beginner. Make sure you get a DVD burner that will come with all the software you need to burn, Dell also has bundled packages with the printer. Now this grandpa needs his nap.
