Running costs? Mono laser Vs Inkjet?

I am looking at getting a printer for home purposes for basic home study/office purposes. I wont be printing photos.

How do the running costs (ink cartridge, drums, ink refills) compare between Mono laser printers and Inkjet printers?

What are the figures? Obviously this will change from printer to printer but can any generalisations be made?

Lexmark Home/Office Monochrome Laser these are the E series they tend to hold up extremely well and the only expense to you it replacing the toner. But I usually order the toner re-fill types cost 1/2 less than buying a new one. Example: If I was to buy new toner cart (black) cost me $89 but if I buy a re-fill type it cost me $40 and this one yields 3,000 sheets instead of 2,000 sheets if I buy OEM.

So your answer would be to buy a Mono Laser for black printing. Even if you were to go with a Color Laser the HP Home/Office models still come out cheaper in the end. They can last you 4,000 sheets or better per toners.

Ink carts cost more and end up costing you more than what the printer is worth. I know people who won’t buy new color carts, they just buy new color printer instead.

My recommendation is to get Mono Laser that has 250 or 500 sheet tray bottom tray. You don’t want the type that have the paper sticking out on top. Moisture can make the paper in time get jam in the printer.

Also you had mention the drum, the smaller mono lasers have the toner/drum integrated. So when the toner goes the drums gets replaced. The Re-fills the drum is usually replaced or cleaned.

Some mono laser printers have a fuser, these cost more to replace those printers usually for more high volume printing.
