cheap hp ink jets
printer buying a new one vs buying ink?

I like buying new things with a warranty. Hp has a one year warranty on new products im sure. I am thinking about buying a new printer. One of those cheap hp ones. That are like 50 dollars. My printer now is kinda slow. Also the scanner don’t work. I called hp and they told me they make them cheap. So the scanner don’t work. And The year of the printer I have is 2004. So it is kinda old. The printer I have is a hp office jet 5510 v all in one. I didn’t pay for the printer my dad gave it to me since it didn’t fax. So he got a new one at target.

I buy printers for my company and I can tell you that it’s always a case of the company using the ink to make $$$ off of a printer they sell you at near cost. The only thing you can really do is get a machine that has an economical ink, has good quality, doesn’t break the bank out the gates and finally look at it like a ‘consumable’ and plan on getting another one in three-five years.

I’d suggest the Kodak AIO series of printers. They use a technology that removes the printhead from the ink cartridge and actually make it separate part of the printer itself. I’ve owned one of these printers for over 2 years and buy a 5 color photo quality cartridge and a black cartridge under $25. The ink cartridges are slightly smaller than HP, but your cost/print will be lower. With Kodak paper, and the packaged software, you get a print not unlike what you’d get from any Kodak film processing facility. It’s also a neat point that with Kodak ink and Kodak paper you achieve ‘archival’ quality which means your prints won’t fade or lose vibrance with age like some modern prints can.

I had a problem with the ink head, mainly because I didn’t print anything for over 6 months and the ink dried up, and the printer was out of warranty. I figured I’d just call their service department and buy a new head, but they sent me a new head and two new cartridges (black and color) for free.

Ink refill kit and ink jet remanufacturing is inevitable
