Canon Ink Cartridges For Less

Photographers/artists: Least expensive (but still good) printer for archival quality prints?
I currently have an hp deskjet 5740 that’s giving me troubles and I’m thinking of replacing it. I like hps because their “vivera” inks give you archival print quality (I make art prints) on a less expensive printer. I’m considering the hp 6940, but I’ve read some bad reviews from users (tho cnet editors rated it somewhat well). So now I’m consider epson or canon, but I can’t tell if they have anything similar or if you have to go up to the 6-9 cartridges expensive printer route to get archival.
Anyone know? Have any suggestions?
Hmm–well I have two completely contradictory answers–lol–anyone else care to help me break the tie?
Also, can anyone tell me the name of the archival ink line from epson, so I can try to do some separate research on which of their printers accepts it?
go Canon. Thier Chromalife inks offer a 100 year archival gaurantee, 20 years greater than the HP.
Canon printers also do a truer print. You cab get a decent 5-7 cartirdge system all with good capacity.
Avoid epson, the cartridges hold very little ink and the Durabrite guarantee is only 60 years. Epsons deliver ink tot he page differently which limits your paper options.
