Rather be safe than sorry!?

I'm looking for a printer. I currently have a 3220 C, Brother, and I regret to buy a couple of years ago. When I'm out of black ink, the printer does not work at all. The same happens when I am in the color cartridge. I would like a printer that works when the cartridge runs out. The ink had not spent much time and would like a printer, that at least 800-1000 pages before having to replace the painting. It is important that the printer to print on both sides.
